Pioneers overpower Bobcats

Posted

The Berryville Bobcats have been plagued with turnovers over the past several weeks, which coach Macklin Chermak said has been a big factor in the Bobcats’ five-game losing streak.

Gentry defeated Berryville 48-7 on Friday, Oct. 24, at Bobcat Stadium, dropping Berryville to 0-5 in 4A-1 conference play after the Bobcats won three straight non-conference games to open the season.

Berryville’s only touchdown against Gentry came on a pass from junior quarterback CT Hicks to senior receiver Kale Smith late in the game.

“Turnovers have hurt us quite a bit,” Chermak said. “Field position has hurt us quite a bit. We’re not winning those. We’re not winning the turnover battle and we’re not winning the field position battle.”

One bright spot for the Bobcats has been the play of junior linebacker Josh Arechiga. Chermak said Arechiga had nine tackles against Gentry.

“Josh has proven on defense to kind of be our bell cow,” Chermak said. “Just because of his leadership and his grasp on the defense and on football.”

Berryville will travel to Lincoln on Friday, Oct. 31. The Wolves are 2-6 overall but 0-5 in conference play.
