District Mission: Ensuring high levels of learning for everyone, every day!
Bobcat Families & Community: Parent/Fami ly-Teacher conferences will be held this Thursday, Oct. 16, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. If you have a student in grades 3-8, expect to see a different type of progress report during conferences.
Berryville Intermediate School and Berryville Middle School are transitioning to standards-based report cards. We are excited to provide families with a clearer and more accurate picture of student learning. Unlike traditional grading systems that combine test scores, homework, and oftentimes behavior into a single letter grade, standards-based grading focuses on specific learning targets or “standards” for each subject.
This approach allows teachers to report how well students understand a specific skill, rather than averaging all of their work together. It also helps identify areas where a student excels and where they may need additional support, creating a more personalized and growth-oriented learning environment.
Parents can expect report cards that use proficiency level, instead of letter grades. These descriptors reflect how consistently a student demonstrates mastery of each standard over time. The goal is to communicate progress more clearly and encourage students to focus on learning rather than grades. Teachers will continue to provide feedback and evidence of learning through classwork, assessments, and observations. We appreciate your partnership as we make this important change to better support student growth and ensure that every child’s progress is accurately represented.
Students at Berryville Intermediate will be using student-led conferences. These are valuable because it helps build ownership in learning and confidence. Student-led conversations strengthen family engagement by allowing parents to hear directly from their child. The main purpose of this strategy is to foster responsibility and encourage a growth-focused school culture.
