When two football teams are evenly matched, penalties and turnovers can make a difference in the outcome.
When there’s a disparity in talent, those elements can spell disaster for one team.
Such was the case on Friday, Sept. 29, as the Ozark Hillbillies capitalized on multiple turnovers and penalties committed by Green Forest and beat the Tigers 41-6.
Ozark scored all of its points in the first half, including a 52yard fumble return for a touchdown in the second quarter.
“Like I told our kids, they’re good enough as it is. They don’t need any help,” Green Forest coach Greg Tibbitt said of Ozark. “And we turned it over five times in the first half.”
Green Forest (2-3, 0-2 4A-1) scored the game’s final points on a 2-yard touchdown run by junior quarterback Mason Meador in the fourth quarter. Junior Ridge Gordon-Swofford had 74 yards rushing on 20 carries for the Tigers.
Green Forest will host Gentry on Friday, Oct. 6, at Tiger Stadium. The Pioneers (4-1, 2-0) are averaging 44.8 points a game this season.
“They’re really good, especially offensively,” Tibbitt said. “I would say they’re upper echelon of our conference.”
