A new chapter in health care is unfolding at the emergency department of Mercy Hospital Berryville with the arrival of Dr. Aaron Zabriskie.

Zabriskie’s journey from global missions to local care is set to make a lasting impact on the community’s well-being as he becomes the fifth integrated physician in the emergency department. Zabriskie started his new role in Berryville on Aug. 21, offering expert care during critical moments. His background is as diverse as it is inspiring — from serving in a mission hospital in Zimbabwe to shaping his medical career around the belief that health care is a cornerstone of human compassion.

“Helping those in need has always been at the heart of my calling,” Zabriskie said. “From working in a remote mission hospital in Zimbabwe to now serving the Berryville community, I believe in the power of providing care where it’s needed most.”

Zabriskie’s passion for global missions led him to Zimbabwe, where he and his family spent years as part of a tight-knit community at Karanda Mission Hospital. This experience not only enriched his medical skills but shaped his perspective on patient care and the importance of building connections across cultures.

“When you’re working in a foreign land, you learn to bridge gaps — in language, culture or resources,” Zabriskie said. “This has taught me to stretch my capabilities and prioritize what matters most — connecting with patients and making a difference.”

Zabriskie’s journey into medicine was fueled by a desire to make a positive impact on lives. Transitioning from a career in geotechnical engineering, he found his calling in the field where he could directly influence people’s well-being and positively impact their health.

“Hearing about the experiences of Dr. Zabriskie in Zimbabwe and his commitment to community- based care is truly inspiring,” said Darren Caldwell, administrator for Mercy Hospital Berryville. “We are blessed to welcome him to Mercy Hospital Berryville, where his worldly perspective and compassionate approach align perfectly with our mission.”

Zabriskie’s connection to Northwest Arkansas is personal, as his wife’s family is rooted in the region.

“With deep family ties here in the region, we knew this was the right move for our family,” Zabriskie said. “We’re excited to be close to our relatives and build a life in this wonderful community.”

A physician and family man, Zabriskie treasures spending time with his family and being active outdoors. Alongside his wife and two children, he is looking forward to taking full advantage of the world-class mountain biking trails of the region and floating the Kings River.

“The quality of life is hard to beat in Berryville,” Caldwell said. “But this is about more than just being a great fit for Dr. Zabriskie. Now that he has joined our emergency medical team, Mercy Hospital Berryville is better equipped to deliver exceptional care to our community.”
