Municipal filing period opens; McKinney seeks another term as BV mayor

Longtime Berryville Mayor Tim McKinney will seek another term in office.

McKinney, who was first elected in 1990 and took office on Jan. 1, 1991, filed as a candidate for re-election last week. The filing period for municipal candidates opened at noon Wednesday, Aug. 3, and will close at noon Wednesday, Aug. 10.

Also filing for re-election in Berryville were city council memb e r Linda Riddlesperger for the Ward 2, Position 1 seat. Ashley Sharp, who was appointed in February to fill a vacancy in the Ward 2, Position 2 seat, also filed to seek a full term.Former Green Forest mayor Charlie Reece will seek a return to office. Reece served as mayor from 2009 to 2018. Also filing as mayoral candidate in Green Forest were longtime city council member Willa Kerby and longtime District 8 Justice of the Peace Don McNeely, who resigned from position to run for mayor. City clerk Morgan Darby-Gonzalez filed as a candidatefor re-election, and Allison Launius will seek the Ward 1, Position 2 seat on the city council.

Tracy Johnson, former events coordinator for the Eureka Springs City Advertising and Promotion Commission, filed as a candidate for mayor of Eureka Springs. Johnson is the lead plaintiff in a lawsuit against incumbent Mayor Butch Berry and several other city officials.

Laura Jo Smole, who held the Ward 1, Position 2 seat on the Eureka Springs City Council before resigning for health reasons in October 2021, filed as a candidate for the Ward 1, Position 1 seat. Council member Melissa Greene is seeking re-election to the Ward 2, Position 1 seat. Incumbent Bill Ott and challenger Steve Holifield filed to seek the Ward 2, Position 2 seat, and incumbent Harry Meyer will seek another term in Ward 3, Position2.Ida Meyer filed as a candidate for Eureka Springs city clerk.

Incumbent Patrick Elwood will seek re-election to the Ward 3, Position 1 seat in Holiday Island.

In Oak Grove, incumbent Gary Gray is seeking re-election to the Position 1 seat on the city council and Stephanie Shepard will seek another term as city clerk.
