The deadline for municipal candidates to file their paperwork for the Nov. 5 general election ended at noon Wednesday, Aug. 7, with a handful of contested races apparently coming up in Carroll County.
All of the candidates will have to be certified by their respective cities, who will then notify the county clerk’s office. The Carroll County Board of Election Commissioners will meet at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16, for the certification of candidates.
In Green Forest, both Janell Compton and Sarah Taylor filed as candidates for the Ward 1, Position 1 seat on the city council, while Luis Diaz and Carroll Smith are seeking the Ward 2, Position 1 seat. Allison Launius (Ward 1, Position 2) and Odra DeLeon (Ward 2, Position 2) will be unopposed.
Holiday Island will have one contested city council race, as both incumbent Kenneth Mills and challenger Bryce Holland filed as candidates for the Ward 1, Position 2 seat. Lynn Dumas (Ward 1, Position 1), Sharon Lawlor (Ward 2, Position 1), Linda Graves (Ward 2, Position 2) and Barbara Kuhn (Ward 3, Position 2) will be unopposed, as will recorder/treasurer candidate Wesley Stille.
Incumbent Berryville City Council members Jason Williams (Ward 1, Position 1), Max Nichols (Ward 1, Position 2) and Ashley Sharp (Ward 2, Position 2) are all unopposed. Linda Riddlesperger, who holds the Ward 2, Position 1 seat, will be reappointed to the city council on Jan. 1.
There are no contested races for the Eureka Springs City Council. Incumbents Susane Gruning (Ward 1, Position 2), David Avanzino (Ward 2, Position 1), Steve Holifield (Ward 2, Position 2), Terry Mc-Clung (Ward 3, Position 1) and Harry Meyer (Ward 3, Position 2) all will be unopposed, as will Michael Welch (Ward 1, Position 1).
Beaver Mayor Scott Leech will be unopposed, as will treasurer/recorder Suzi Lakin. Billie Padgett (Position 1), Tim Kilby (Position 2), Wes Lakin (Position 3) and Ralph Goodman (Position 4) all filed without opposition as city council candidates.
Sondra Eby is unopposed as a mayoral candidate in Blue Eye. Steve Lautaret (Position 1) and Amber Ross (Position 2) are unopposed candidates for city council.
Gary Gray (Position 1), Lajunta Plumlee (Position 2) and Aaron Curtis (Position 3) are unopposed candidates for the Oak Grove City Council.
Individuals who want to vote in the Nov. 5 general election may register through Oct. 7. For more information, call the Carroll County Clerk’s Office at 870-423-2022.
