Friends of the Berryville Library members and community leaders gathered at the building site of the new library on Wednesday, Sept. 4, as Darren Caldwell, administrator of Mercy Hospital Berryville, announced Mercy’s pledge of $25,000 toward the construction of a new Berryville library.
With this latest donation by Mercy, the Friends have raised 93 percent of the $3.5 million needed to build a new library.
“Mercy is pleased to support the construction of a new public library, reinforcing our commitment to the Berryville community beyond the walls of our hospital,” Caldwell said. “This investment is about more than building a new library; it’s an investment in the educational and cultural future of Berryville. We are grateful to be part of this transformative project that will benefit generations to come in the community we have served for more than five decades.”
The ceremonial check was received on behalf of the Friends of the Berryville Library by Friends President Elaine Floyd, Berryville Library Advisory Board president and fundraising committee chairman Tyler Squires, building committee chairman Joe Scott and library director Julie Hall along with other Friends, library and community leaders.
The Friends of the Berryville Library is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and all donations to the building fund are tax-deductible. The Berryville Library is one of six libraries that compose the Carroll and Madison Library System, also known as CAMALS.
“We couldn’t be more elated to learn of Mercy’s commitment to this project and the value they are placing in the future vitality of this community,” Floyd said. “Their investment in our library will serve people of all ages long after those of us standing here today are gone.”
In addition, Floyd encouraged businesses and individuals to become an official part of the story of the new library and join the Friends.
Scott thanked Mercy for their financial commitment to the future of the library and added: “So many people and small businesses in our community rely on the resources of our library. We are helping bridge multicultural and multigenerational gaps by providing assistance with technology, educational programs and free resources.”
