Meador’s hitting, pitching lift Tigers over Berryville

Posted

Runs were hard to come by as Green Forest hosted Berryville in the final regular-season game for both teams on Friday, April 19.

But Mason Meador made sure the Tigers had just enough runs to claim the victory.

Meador’s two-out double to center field in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted Green Forest to a 2-1 victory that completed a season sweep of their Carroll County rivals.

Green Forest, which defeated Berryville 5-3 earlier in the season, also went 2-0 against Eureka Springs to claim the unofficial Carroll County championship.

Meador’s double drove home freshman Collin Atchison, who also had doubled with two outs.

Meador, a junior, and sophomore Ryne Stone each had two of the Tigers’ seven hits.

In addition to delivering the big hit, Meador also had quite a day on the mound. He pitched a complete game, allowing one run on two hits while striking out 12 batters and walking six.

Berryville took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning when senior Josh Butler was hit by a pitch, stole second and third base and scored on a passed ball.

Stone answered with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth, scoring senior Levi Tipton to tie the score at 1-1.

Berryville got runners to second base in both the sixth and seventh innings but couldn’t advance them further. Likewise, Green Forest stranded a runner at second in the bottom of the sixth.

The first two Green Forest batters were retired in the bottom of the seventh before Atchison’s double set the stage for Meador’s game-winning hit.

Green Forest’s softball team defeated Berryville 5-2.
