A few hours before the Berryville Bobcats played at Greenland on Monday, Nov. 24, in their final game before the Thanksgiving break, Berryville coach Brent Compton said he’d like to see junior guard Carson McMellon play well.
And so it came to pass. Or more accurately, to shoot.
McMellon made seven three-pointers in eight attempts and scored a game-high 23 points to lead four Bobcats in double figures as Berryville rolled to a 78-47 victory over the Pirates.
McMellon made one three-pointer in the first quarter and two each in the second, third and fourth as the Bobcats improved to 5-0 to start the season.
Berryville led by 20 points — 41-21 — at halftime.
Junior John Butler had 16 points for the Bobcats, while classmates CT Hicks and Hudson Norris added 15 and 12, respectively.
Berryville faced Life Way Christian in the first round of West Fork’s Duel at the Dome on Monday, Dec. 1. Second-round games will be played on Wednesday, Dec. 3, with the championship and third-place games slated for Thursday, Dec. 4.
On Saturday, Dec. 6, the Bobcats will play Kingston at 4:30 p.m. in the first round of the 69th Annual Anstaff Bank Holiday Tournament at Green Forest.
