Lyman Gray Squires III of Berryville, Arkansas was born on May 30, 1954, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Lyman and Betty (Howard) Squires. Gray passed away Monday, January 8, 2024, in Bentonville, Arkansas at the age of 69.

He was raised in Berryville and graduated from Berryville High School in 1972. He attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and Drury University in Springfield, Missouri. He returned home to Berryville to serve as the optician for Squires Optometry. In 2005, he became the owner of his own optical shop, Eye-Q-Optical. He provided services to Berryville Lions Club, local nursing homes and ECHO Clinic.

Gray was a musician and was well known across Carroll County and surrounding areas for his bass playing. He played in countless groups and was always willing to jam. He was proud to have served as President of the Carroll County Community Orchestra.

He had a passion for genealogy and history and particularly the history of Carroll County. He served as a board member of the Carroll County Historical Society and Editor of the Historical Quarterly.

He served as a board member for the Kings River Watershed Partnership. He volunteered for the river clean ups and loved to float the local rivers any chance he could. Some of his favorite floats were in

the winter months.

Gray married Dawn Allen and they had two sons who survive him, Tyler Squires and his wife Emily of Berryville, Arkansas and Troy Squires of Rogers, Arkansas. He is also survived by granddaughter, Elsie Squires of Berryville, Arkansas; father, Lyman Squires of Berryville, Arkansas; sister, Beth Squires of Bentonville, Arkansas; and a host of other family and friends who will miss him greatly.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Betty Jo Squires.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 11, 2024, at the Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to any of the following: Carroll County Historical and Genealogical Society, Kings River Watershed Partnership, Happy Valley Dog Rescue, or Friends of the Berryville Library.
