Lots going on as Spring Break approaches

Posted

The school year is really flying by! Parents & guardians, don’t forget that it’s time for parent-teacher conferences once again and this will be a short week for students. Conferences will be held on Thursday, March 16, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., which means classes are not in session. On Friday, March 17, classes will not be in session for students because teachers will be having a professional development day. March 20-24 is SPRING BREAK! We will welcome all of our students back to school on Monday, March 27.

The elementary and intermediate schools recently celebrated Read Across America week. Third-grade students and staff participated by incorporating a rotation of multiple genres and fun themes each day. Teachers worked ahead of time to collect classroom sets of specific genres to follow up with a Book Walk activity held earlier in the year.

Book genres included Dr. Seuss, Mystery, Weather and Science (to support current unit focus), Sports, Culture/Around the World, and African American History. The books were rotated through classrooms each day. Each afternoon, students chose a book and participated in reading with the theme for the day. These included reading outside, at the beach, and under the stars (by flashlight).

The goal was to expose students to a variety of genres that they might not have chosen on their own to help increase their love for reading. Our teachers worked very hard to make Read Across America an exciting and fun week for our students!

The high school Bobcat Band participated in the ASBOA regional assessment and scored superior in Marching, Concert and Sight Reading. This means they have earned Sweepstakes again this year. Congratulations to the band students and their dedicated leaders, Doug and Tonja Blevins!

The Bobcat Sports complex is buzzing with activity as baseball, softball and soccer are back in action. Come on out and support our student- athletes! Schedules and updates are posted consistently on the Berryville Bobcat Athletic Booster Club Facebook page and on district social media outlets.

Congratulations to middle school students Brayden Galbraith, Emma Flusche, Emma Switzer and middle school teacher Jessica Bickel for being recognized as students and teacher of the month for February. Bobcat Nation is proud of each one of you!

Parents, state testing is right around the corner. Students will be taking the ACT Aspire in April (more information will be coming soon from each school) so be on the lookout for testing dates and tips that will help your child do their best.

Remember, students are rewarded for demonstrating growth on tests from year to year. Last year, several students earned free days off from school for their hard work and we want to be able to celebrate even more kids this year! Next month’s Bobcat Buzz will include additional information about the upcoming assessment, end of the year activities, and more. Stay tuned!
