Berryville sophomore Malachi Houghton was the top finisher from a Carroll County school in the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival on Oct. 1 in Fayetteville, finishing 76th in the Boys Open 5K race with a time of 17 minutes, 42.2 seconds.
Houghton was followed by teammates Cole Price (341st, 20:00.2), Asher Ross (351st, 20:03.6), Robby Bartos (466th, 21:05.2), Nathan Ross (494th, 21:33.9) and Aden Burnett (539th, 22:11.4). Berryville finished 47th in the team standings.
Green Forest senior Alonzo Rangel finished 195th in 18:50.8. He was followed by teammates Joseph Duenas (270th, 19:25.3), Sergio Martinez (287th, 19:32.9), Elvin Montoya (392nd, 20:27.0), Alex Alverez (458th, 20:59.7) and Chris Alvorado (496th, 21:34.3). Green Forest School finished 46th in the team standings.
In the Girls Open 5K, Berrryville sophomore Bella Knapp finished 182nd in 23:44.4, followed by teammates Astralia Amos (200th, 24:05.5) and Carly Smith (342nd, 26:37.4). Green Forest freshman Emily Sales finished 271st in 25:20.8.
