The Berryville and Green Forest high school cross country teams competed in the two-mile race at the Chile Pepper Festival on Saturday, Sept. 30, on the University of Arkansas cross country course in Fayetteville.
Green Forest’s Joseph Duenas was the top local finisher, placing 82 in the boys race with a time of 11:25.50. He was followed by teammates Arauny Reyes (118th), Alex Alvarez (386th), Sergio Martinez (389th) and Alex Lemus (734th).
Kayla Lozano led Green Forest’s girls, finishing 158th in 14:40.10. Lisbet Rosales was 280th, Stephanie Lopez was 460th and Eregly Gaspar was No. 545.
Berryville’s Malachi Houghton was 129th in the boys race (11:42.10) and was followed by teammates Oliver Beamis (331st), Noah Houghton (357th), Asher Ross (545th), Aden Burnett (639th), Lane Carman (684th) and Nathan Ross (712th).
Bella Knapp (14:41.30) was 161st in the girls race. Astralia Amos (197th), Maranatha Ross (268th), Carly Smith (334th) and Sophee Bartos (539th) also ran for the Berryville girls.
A total of 869 runners competed in the boys two-mile race, while there were 573 participants in the girls race.
