Local runners compete at Elkins

Carroll County’s high school and junior cross country teams participated in the Elkins Invitational meet on Saturday, Sept. 9.

Berryville’s Malachi Houghton took fifth place among high school boys with a time of 19:03. He was followed by Noah Houghton (20:59, 18th), Asher Ross (21:34, 20th), Gabriel Wall (23:20, 25th), Lane Carmen (23:27, 26th); Nathan Ross (24:11, 29th), Cavin Simpkins (24:27, 30th) and Aden Burnett (25:17, 35th). The Bobcats finished fourth in the team standings.

Green Forest’s Joseph Duenas was seventh in 19:15, followed by teammates Sergio Martinez (21:30, 26th), Erbin Mendoza (21:31, 28th), Alex Lemus (22:44, 36th) and Isaac Flores (27:15, 62nd).

Bella Knapp took sixth place among high school girls with a time of 24:41. Other Berryville runners were Astralia Amos (25:04, seventh), Maranotha Ross (26:00, 11th), Carly Smith (26:52, 15th) and Sophee Bartos (34:35, 23rd). The Lady Bobcats finished second in the team standings.

Green Forest’s Kayla Lozano was 10th in 24:40 and was followed by teammates Lisbet Rosales (26:36, 23rd) and Haddasah Reyes (30:27, 39th).

Berryville’s Kai Killingsworth won the junior high girls division, running two miles in 14:19 to lead the Lady Bobcats to first place in the team standings. Mikayla Killingsworth was fourth in 16:22. They were followed by Marcella Gray (16:51, sixth), Keily Diaz (17:15, eighth), Paola Arrizon (18:58, 15th),Jasmine Trujillo (19:18, 21st) and Noelia Zuniga (22:59, 30th).

Green Forest’s junior girls were led by Alice Garcia (17:03, 14th). She was followed by Jade Campbell (18:26, 29th), Adrianna Reyes (20:45, 43rd), Lorena Ortega (21:10, 46th) and Juliet Rangel (27:37, 57th).

Berryville’s Jachin Houghton was 15th among junior boys in 15:47. Karson Casey finished in 18:09 for 24th place.

For Green Forest’s junior boys, Jahdiel Manuel took fifth place in 13:31. He was followed by Cristian Rosales (14:03, 15th), Alex Lopez (14:58, 29th), Antony Serrano (15:03, 32nd), Franklin Lopez (15:48, 44th), Alex Serrano (16:02, 51st), Andy Herrera (16:42, 60th), Christian Garcia (18:00, 82nd), Ethan Stone (19:12, 91st), Bryan Carreon (25:15, 109th) and Daniel Leon (28:02, 111th).

Eureka Springs had five runners in the junior boys race, led by Roman Schuber (25:32, 52nd). He was followed by Billy Martines (27:55, 65th), Omar Rincon-Estrada (27:57, 66th), Lyric Shreve (38:25, 72nd) and Lexington Coombs (42:22, 73rd).

Eureka Springs’ Anna Vaverka finished the girls race in 28:17 for 34th place.
