Local cross country teams compete at Elkins, Siloam

Carroll County’s high school cross country teams have been busy over the past two weekends, competing in meets at Elkins and Siloam Springs.

Green Forest sophomore Arauny Reyes took sixth place in the boys

1A-3A division at the Elkins Invitational on Sept. 10, covering the 5,000-meter course in 18 minutes, 30.20 seconds. He was followed by teammates Alonzo Rangel (12th, 19:21.98); Sergio Martinez (23rd, 20:11.57); Chris Alvarado (36th, 21:37.25); and Alex Alvarez (22:32.27). Green Forest finished third among eight teams in the boys 1A-3A division.

On the girls side, the Lady Tigers’ Haddasah Reyes finished 30th with a time of 31:23.46.

Among 4A-5A boys, Berryville’s Malachi Haughton finished 18th in 19:08.21. He was followed by Cole Price (30th, 20:16.31); Asher Ross (43rd, 21:14.93); Gavin Simpkins (61st, 22:56.84); Gabriel Wall (62nd, 22:59.42); Nathan Ross (64th, 23:05.57); and Robby Bartos (65th, 23:07.07). The Bobcats finished fifth among eight teams.

On the girls side, Berryville’s Carly Smith took 10th place (23:30.24). She was followed by Bella Knapp (16th, 24:25.80); Tessa Parton (18th, 24:31.17); and Sophee Bartos (57th, 46:53.16).

In the Panther XC Classic on Sept. 17 at Siloam Springs, Arauny Reyes took eighth place among Class 1A-4A boys with a time of 18:31.14. Also competing for Green Forest were Rangel (23rd, 19:58.98); Joseph Duenas (27th, 20:21.84); Martinez (32nd, 20:29.34); Alvarado (40th, 21:16.08); Elvin Montoya (60th, 22:32.91); and Alvarez (74th, 23:30.21). Green Forest finished 12th in the boys team standings, which included schools in all classes.

Haddasah Reyes was 51st among Class 1A-4A girls with a time of 32:53.96.

Haughton set the pace again for Berryville, finishing in 19:16.14 for 14th place among Class 1A-4A boys. He was followed by Price (33rd, 20:30.75); Asher Ross (38th, 20:59.79); Robby Bartos (56th, 22:18.54); Wall (64th, 22:42.84); Nathan Ross (75th, 23:31.00); and Aden Burnett (79th, 23:47.43). The Bobcats finished 17th in the team standings.

Parton finished 13th among Class 1A-4A girls at 25:21:08. Smith was right behind in 14th place at 25:55.88, and Sophee Bartos finished 57th in 46:41.31.
