The Berryville Lions Club and Equity Bank have teamed up again this year to provide a valuable service to the public. On Saturday, May 6, the team will host another paper/document shredding event for those who have old tax returns, bank statements, mail and other papers that need to be destroyed.
“This is not a fundraising event for the Lions Club,” said former Lions Club president and charter member Lyman Squires. “We are doing this project as a public service.
Shredding will begin at 10 a.m and continue until 1 p.m. on the Equity Bank parking lot. Lunch and refreshments will be provided by Equity Bank. The shredding services are provided by the Lions Club. A document disposal company has been contracted by the Lions to handle the documents. While the public is not allowed in the truck during the shredding process they can observe as their papers are destroyed. There is no charge for this service but donations will be accepted and given to a local food bank.
The Lions Club is internationally known for its work in sight preservation, collecting used eyeglasses to redistribute to those in need around the world.
“Our primary fundraising activity is our flag service, where we put out the U.S. flag in front of businesses and homes across the city on holidays,” Squires said. “We will also begin a new fundraising project soon where we collect used fishing lures, refurbish them and sell them at events across the area.”
Those interested in this service may pick up a flyer at Equity Bank, located at 911 W. Trimble Ave. in Berryville.
