Library Donation

The Berryville Public Library building project has taken another step closer to meeting the goal of raising the needed funds to be able to set a date to break ground on the new facility in 2024 — one year ahead of the projected 2025 timeline. Less than $125,000 is needed to reach the $3.2 million goal by year end.

Prominent community supporters and longtime pharmacist Guy Lessenberry and his wife, Judith, are announcing their $20,000 support for the Berryville Library Building project.

In a recent interview with Guy, he stated that he and his wife wanted to give back to the community, which has been so supportive to both them and their business over the years.

“What better way to give a gift to the community you love than to support a library building project that will serve the community for many many generations to come?” said Lessenberry.

The Lessenberrys also contributed an additional $5,000 that was used for the purchase of additional books.

Guy was the pharmacist owner of Economy Drug which began in 1978 in a building on Highway 62 close to the Berryville school. The pharmacy later expanded and moved west on Highway 62. Economy Drug has new owners but remains in the same location.

Guy and his family moved to Berryville from Springfield. Guy has always had a passion for riding a bicycle and frequently can be seen riding his bicycle throughout the county. He is also fondly known for the Christmas tree and lights he places on his truck during each holiday season.

The Lessenberrys have two children and three grandchildren, who are the apple of their eyes.

“The Lessenberry family has touched this community in so many ways through the years and to receive this gift to the library which supports education, learning and access to the entire world through the world wide web,” said Berryville Library Board chair Joe Scott. “We just can’t thank them enough for their visionary support for the community.”
