The Berryville Chamber of Commerce hosted a “State of the State” conference on Monday, Jan. 6, at the Berryville Community Center, offering residents a chance to interact with their local representatives before the 2025 state legislative session begins Monday, July 13.
State Sen. Bryan King, State Rep. Harlan Breaux and State Rep.-Elect James Eaton participated in the event, with Berryville Chamber of Commerce executive director Ashley Hinton serving as moderator.
King, Breaux and Eaton all offered opening remarks before a wide-ranging question-and-answer session that touched on topics as diverse as religion in schools, Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ plans to construct a new state prison in Franklin County (part of King’s State Senate district), training requirements for law enforcement officers, the administrative fees that the state collects on local sales taxes and transgender issues, among other topics.
Because of deadline constraints, a full report on the conference will be published in the Jan. 14 issue of the Carroll County News.
