Leaf pickup to begin Nov. 7 in Berryville

Carroll County News

Fall is approaching and the City of Berryville is already making plans to address fallen leaves and limbs in the city.

During the Berryville City Council’s regular meeting Sept. 6, council members discussed plans for the city’s annual leaf pickup. Of the two options — one beginning Oct. 31 and the other a week later on Nov. 7 — council members decided the later start would be best.

“It’s hard to guess what it might do,” said council member Linda Riddlesperger.

Mayor Tim McKinney agreed, pointing out that city workers often have to make a second pass.

“We always end up going back anyway,” McKinney said. “You pick up the maple leaves, and a week later, all the oak trees shed their leaves and you have to go back again. I think the later the better.

“We’ll work an extra three or four days after whichever schedule we use anyway.”

After some discussion, council members decided to approve the Nov. 7 start date.

“That’ll give people more time to prepare,” McKinney said. “And if they do fall early, maybe we won’t have to go back to so many places.”

According to the route list shared during the council meeting, city crews will begin picking up leaves on Nov. 7 and continue through Dec. 9, following a specific schedule with the city divided into four routes by street.
