Laura Lucile Swofford, of Berryville, Arkansas, passed away peacefully Monday, February 5, 2024. Laura was born on May 18, 1935, to Benjamin Alfred and Alta Grace (Evans) Bailey, in Kansas City, Missouri, in her Aunt Opal Laura Johnson’s house, whom she was named after.
Laura was a caring woman who had a great love for the Lord and her family. She was saved at the age of 13 while attending the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Oak Grove, Arkansas, and later baptized in Yocum Creek. She attended school in Gove, Kansas and Wichita, Kansas, eventually moving to Berryville, Arkansas. Laura worked for 10 years at Glick Manufacturing, the Carroll County Senior Center for over 10 years, and at Carroll General Hospital for 10 years.
On September 8, 1951, Laura married Roy Richard Swofford who preceded her in death. She is also preceded by her son, Terry R. Swofford; daughter, Delores K. Swofford; grandson, Jeffery D. Swofford; parents, Benjamin and Alta Bailey. Laura is survived by her son, Jerl D. Swofford and his wife Gayla. Her grandchildren include: Lacy Stang and her husband Ben, Greg Swofford and his wife Emily, Allen Swofford and his wife Carol, and Angelena Swofford. Great-grandchildren, Andrew, Mia, Tinley, Kindell, Raylin, Destinee, Dixie, Dakota, Dusty, Angelica and Delsin.
Visitation with family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., Monday February 12, 2024, at the Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Larry Plumlee and Pastor Anthony Writer officiating.
