Lady Tigers win in new coach’s debut

The Green Forest Lady Tigers didn’t make new coach Dylan Kilgore wait long for his first victory.

The Lady Tigers opened the 2023-24 season with a 47-43 victory over Cotter on Tuesday, Nov. 7.

Junior McKensey Randolph, who is returning from a torn ACL, led the Lady Tigers with 21 points in the victory.

“She had a good first outing,” said Kilgore, formerly the head coach at Oark.

Kilgore said his team has some ingredients to be successful this season.

“We’ve got a pretty good little core this year,” he said. “We have some girls returning. It’s going OK. We’ve got a lot of stuff to work on but we’re moving in the right direction.”

The Lady Tigers will look to the backcourt for leadership. Senior guard Virginia Gonzalez has plenty of experience. Randolph and Gonzalez are joined in the starting lineup by junior Kayla Lozano, Alivia Norris and Johneese Smalley.

“I think our guard play will be our strength,” Kilgore said. “We’ve got to develop all around but we’ve got a senior guard and several juniors that have played significant minutes. We’re taking care of the ball. We didn’t necessarily take care of the ball (against Cotter) but we found a way to win. But I think our strength will be our guard play when we’re taking care of the basketball.”

Green Forest will host Berryville on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at the Grim Gym.
