Green Forest sophomore Lydia Russell turned in another outstanding performance at Mountain Home’s Bomber Relays on Wednesday, April 19, winning two events and setting a school record in a third.
Russell took first place among Class 1A-3A girls in the 300-meter hurdles (49.75 seconds) and the long jump (16 feet, 3 inches). She placed second in the 100-meter hurdles but finished in a school-record time of 16.29 seconds, beating former Lady Tiger Kamarra Hoppe’s mark of 16.43 in 2008. Russell also finished second in the triple jump. She took third place in the 100-meter dash and fifth in the 200.
Russell’s classmate, Haddasah Reyes won the girls discus (85-6) and finished seventh in the shot put.
Another Green Forest sophomore, Elena Quiroz, was seventh in the 1,600-meter run and 12th in the 800. Senior Yamliet Cifuentes finished eighth in the shot put and 13th in the discus, while sophomore Gabriela Lopez- Tzoc was 11th in the discus.
On the boys side, Green Forest dominated the distance races with senior Alonzo Rangel taking first place among 1A-3A athletes in both the 800 meters (2:12.86) and the 3,200 (11:00.93) and sophomore Arauny Reyes winning the 1,600 (5:06.33).
Reyes also won the triple jump (38-1.5) and was second in the long jump.
Green Forest junior Fernando Gonzalez won the discus and freshman Lucas Maloney was second in the pole vault.
Junior Joseph Duenas finished second in the 800-meter run and fourth in the 1,600.
Senior Joel Salgado took third place in the shot put junior Carlos Lemus was third in the discus and senior Tony Gonzalez took third in the high jump and fourth in the 200 meters.
Senior Ali Cabrera took third place in the 400-meter dash, sixth in the 100 and 10th in the 200, while classmate Jay Pope finished fourth in the pole vault and sixth in the 200-meter run.
Seniors Jaaz Pope and Jesus Romero were fifth and sixth, respectively, in the shot put. Freshman Luis Bathen was ninth in the discus and 16th in the pole vault and junior Brandon Lopez-Tzoc was 18th in the 200-meter dash.
The Tigers finished third in the 4X100-meter relay.
Green Forest’s boy took second place in the boys Class 1A3A team standings, 11 points behind first-place Melbourne. Green Forest tied for fourth in the girls team standings.
Green Forest will host the 3A-1 district championships on Wednesday.
