Lady Tigers outlast Springdale

In a game that featured big innings, aggressive baserunning and multiple lead changes, Green Forest held off Springdale for an 18-16 victory Friday.

The Lady Tigers wasted no time setting the tone, erupting for seven runs in the top of the first inning. Taysha Luedke doubled and later tripled in the inning, driving in runs, while Codi Joubert and Emma Watson also contributed early as Green Forest built a 7-0 lead.

Springdale answered with a big second inning to tie the game at 7-7, then continued to pressure the Lady Tigers with its own aggressive approach on the bases. The Bulldogs took a 12-9 lead after four innings as both teams consistently manufactured runs with hits, walks and steals.

Green Forest responded in the sixth with one of its biggest innings of the night, scoring seven runs to regain control. Tynslie Castillo and Luedke each had key hits in the rally, while Bella Philips delivered an RBI single. Watson added another hit in the inning, and Brinley Bishop drove in a run after being hit by a pitch as the Lady Tigers surged ahead 16-12.

Springdale didn’t go away, scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 16-16.

Green Forest answered again in the top of the seventh. Luedke reached base and eventually scored, and Philips delivered the decisive blow with a triple to center field that pushed the Lady Tigers in front 18-16.

Springdale put a runner on in the bottom of the seventh, but Green Forest closed it out with a strikeout and a caught stealing at home to end the game.
