Green Forest girls soccer coach Ashley Wilson said goodbye to eight seniors after the Lady Tigers lost in the semifinals of the Class 3A state tournament last May.
This spring, Wilson said hello to seven freshmen.
“It’s a building year,” Wilson said. “There’s lots of potential. There’s the heart there and that’s what really matters.”
The Lady Tigers opened the season with a 1-0 loss to Springdale Har-Ber’s junior varsity on Feb. 27.
“We did really well for our first game, especially with a pretty much brand-new team this year,” Wilson said.
Of course, Green Forest isn’t completely starting from scratch. The Lady Tigers do have three seniors — including Emily Lozano, who scored five goals in a first-round state tournament game last season.
“She’s really strong in the middle of the field,” Wilson said. “She scored a lot of goals last year. Having that experience will help the other girls.”
Green Forest played at Bentonville West on Monday. The Lady Tigers will travel to Decatur on Thursday.
