Posted

The Berryville Lady Bobcats kept themselves in firm contention for the 4A-1 conference title last week, winning a pair of conference games to stay within one game of first place.

Berryville won 52-40 at Huntsville on Tuesday, Jan. 13, then defeated Gentry 62-41 on Friday, Jan. 16, at Bobcat Arena.

The Lady Bobcats made 10 three-pointers in the victory at Huntsville, led by four apiece from senior guards Hailey Howerton and Tessa Johnson.

“We shot it really well against Huntsville, which is something we’re capable of doing,” Berryville coach Daniel Cornelison said.

Howerton led the Lady Bobcats with 16 points while Johnson added 13 and another senior, Chaney Fairweather, scored 10.

Against Gentry, Berryville raced out to a 19-2 lead by the end of the first quarter.

Howerton had eight points in the first quarter against Gentry and finished with 20. Senior guard Paige Thurman added 13.

Berryville (16-5, 5-1 4A-1) will host Pea Ridge on Tuesday, Jan. 20, before traveling to Prairie Grove on Friday, Jan. 23.

The Lady Bobcats have a rematch with league leader Shiloh Christian, which handed Berryville its only conference loss, on Tuesday, Jan. 27, at Bobcat Arena.
