Lady ’Cats don’t let loss linger

Posted

The Berryville Lady Bobcats dropped their second 4A-1 conference game of the season last week, but they didn’t let the loss linger.

After Pea Ridge jumped out to a big early lead and defeated Berryville 60-43 on Tuesday, Jan. 20, at Bobcat Arena, Berryville was right back to its winning ways two nights later with a 51-33 victory on the road at Prairie Grove.

The Prairie Grove game originally was scheduled for Friday, Jan. 23, but was moved up a day in anticipation of a winter storm that hit Northwest Arkansas over the weekend.

In the loss to Pea Ridge, Berryville fell behind by eight, 17-9, at the end of the first quarter and trailed 35-20 at halftime.

Seniors Hailey Howerton and Chaney Fairweather scored 11 points apiece to lead Berryville.

At Prairie Grove, the Lady Bobcats led 27-19 at halftime, then outscored the Lady Tigers 20-9 in the third quarter to open up a 21-point cushion.

All five Berryville starters scored at least seven points, led by 14 from Fairweather and 13 from senior Tessa Johnson, who hit four of the Lady Bobcats’ eight threepoint baskets — including two in Berryville’s third-quarter run.

Berryville (17-6, 6-2 4A-1) has back-to-back home games this weekend. The Lady Bobcats will host Gravette on Friday, Jan. 30, at Bobcat Arena, then will host conference- leading Shiloh Christian just 24 hours later, on Saturday, Jan. 31.

The Shiloh Christian game was originally scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 27, but was rescheduled because of road conditions after the weekend snowstorm.
