On paper, the Berryville Lady Bobcats weren’t supposed to beat Pea Ridge and earn a spot in this week’s regional volleyball tournament.
On the floor of Bobcat Arena, however, the Lady Bobcats did just that. Seeded sixth in the 4A Northwest District Tournament, Berryville defeated the third-seeded Lady Blackhawks in four sets to advance to this week’s 4A North regional at Gravette.
“We’re very excited,” said first-year Berryville coach Alley Edwards.
After the teams split the first two sets, the Lady Bobcats won the final two sets by scores of 25-18, 25-19 to complete the upset.
Edwards credited freshman setter Tinley Swofford, who joined the varsity for the postseason, with giving the Lady Bobcats a boost.
“She did some good things for us,” Edwards said. “Everybody was super excited to get to host district and to get to play at home. You don’t usually get to do that, so it was a lot of fun. It was also a cool experience to get to play in the arena.”
Berryville, which lost its final two matches in the district tournament to Prairie Grove and Gravette, entered the regional as a No. 4 seed.
Berryville faced No. 1 seed Pottsville on Monday, Oct. 20, in the regional tournament at Gravette.
