The final score of the Berryville Lady Bobcats’ Senior Night game against Shiloh Christian on Friday, Feb. 10, might be a little misleading.
Berryville won the game, 47-36, but it didn’t come easily. The Lady Bobcats trailed by 10 points in the second quarter and were down seven midway through the third. But Berryville found its rhythm on both ends of the floor in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Lady Saints 18-3 over the final 4:48 to record the double-digit victory.
“I was really proud of the girls for battling that whole game and then really having a nice fourth quarter,” Berryville coach Daniel Cornelison said.
The Lady Bobcats trailed 31 -29 at the end of the third quarter and 33-29 after a pair of Shiloh Christian free throws. Berryville’s game-winning run started at the 4:48 mark when sophomore Kynadee Hopper dropped in a three-pointer to pull the Lady Bobcats within one at 33-32.
Shiloh Christian answered with a three to push its lead back to four, but the Lady Saints didn’t score again.
Sophomore Taelor Tomlinson’s three-pointer with 4:17 left cut the deficit back to one, then Tomlinson found senior Hannah Youngblood on a fast break and Youngblood converted a three-point play to cap a 9-3 Berryville run in a span of 46 seconds and put the Lady Bobcats ahead 38-36 with 4:02 left to play.
It was all Berryville from there as Sophie Bart os made the second of two free throws with 3:19 remaining, Youngblood made two at the 2:28 mark and Hopper banked in a three-pointer with 1:49 left to extend the Lady Bobcats’ lead to 44-36. “Kynadee Hopper in the second half was huge,” Cornelison said. “She had two big threes. She dominated the right side of the floor defensively. She just played a heck of a game. Taelor hit a big three in the fourth quarter. It was a lot of fun.”
Youngblood led the Lady Bobcats with 18 points while Hopper added 11 and Tomlinson scored 10.
Cornelison said he was happy for the Lady Bobcats’ seniors — Youngblood, Mia Thurman, Avery Bell, Emma Hall and Kaylee McCarty — to get a victory in their final regular- season game at Bobcat Arena.
“It was really, really nice to send our seniors out on Senior Night with a win,” Cornelison said. “It means a lot for the seniors to have that and it was really cool. We had a great group of seniors and I just appreciate their efforts. It was nice to get that W for them.”
Berryville hosts the 4A-1 district tournament this week at Bobcat Arena. The seventh-seeded Lady Bobcats face No. 6 seed Huntsville in a first-round game at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The winner will advance to face Gravette, the No. 3 seed, at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
“It’s district tournament time and crazy stuff happens,” Cornelison said. “So we’re just going to go try to play our best basketball and see what happens.”
