Lady Bobcats have Huntsville’s number

Posted

An old basketball adage says it’s hard to beat a team three times in one season.

The Berryville Lady Bobcats didn’t have any trouble doing it, however.

Berryville jumped out to an early lead and went on to a 49-39 Homecoming victory over Huntsville on Friday, Feb. 6, at Bobcat Arena. The victory was the Lady Bobcats’ third over the Lady Eagles this season. In addition to sweeping the home-and-home conference series with Huntsville, Berryville also defeated the Lady Eagles in overtime earlier this season in tournament play in Green Forest.

Senior Chaney Fairweather, who was a member of the Berryville Homecoming court earlier in the evening, scored 19 points in the first half to help the Lady Bobcats grab a 2614 halftime lead. She finished with 22. Classmate Hailey Howerton added 10.

The victory capped a 2-0 week for Berryville, which defeated Green Forest 65-33 on Tuesday, Feb. 3, at the Grim Gym.

Fairweather scored 15 to lead a balance offensive attack for the Lady Bobcats, who led 33-18 at halftime. Howerton added 13 and senior Paige Thurman scored 11.

Angelynn Janer led Green Forest with 14 points, while Kaylyn Smith added 10.

Berryville (20-7, 9-3 4A-1) will close out the regular season with conference road games at Gentry on Tuesday, Feb. 10, and Pea Ridge on Friday, Feb. 13. The district tournament begins Monday, Feb. 16, on the campus of Shiloh Christian in Springdale. Berryville is third in the conference standings, two games behind second-place Pea Ridge and three games in front of fourth-place Gravette.

Green Forest lost 68-30 at Gravette on Friday, Feb. 6. The Lady Tigers (6-18, 0-12) travel to Prairie Grove on Tuesday, Feb. 10, before closing the regular season at home against Shiloh Christian on Friday, Feb. 13.
