The Berryville Lady Bobcats dropped a pair of conference games on the road last week, losing in three sets at Farmington on Tuesday, Oct. 4, and at Huntsville on Thursday, Oct. 6.
Berryville coach Kristin Whetham said the Lady Bobcats didn’t play poorly. In fact, she said the Farmington games was “probably the best we’ve played all year.”
“We always seem to be on the short end of the stick when we play well,” Whetham said. “It’s frustrating. Farmington is extremely athletic. Offensively is where we struggle a little bit.”
Against Huntsville, Whetham said a slow start left the Lady Bobcats playing from behind from the outset.
“It was their Senior Night, and it was Huntsville playing Berryville, which is always competitive,” Whetham said. “They came out ready to play and we didn’t.”
But Whetham said Berryville made a defensive adjustment in the third set that may pay dividends moving forward even though the Lady Eagles hung on to win the set 26-24.
“We went to a 5-1 with Mia Thurman setting the ball,” Whetham said. “It seemed to help us a little bit.”
Berryville will host Gravette on Tuesday before closing out the regular season Thursday at Pea Ridge. The district tournament begins Monday, Oct. 17, at Prairie Grove.
