The Carroll County Quorum Court voted 10-0 at its regular meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 17, to appropriate $33,000 for renovation of the county’s Search and Rescue building.
According to a supplemental appropriation ordinance, the building — located at the Carroll County Airport — is a safety hazard because of structural problems with the main support beams.
In addition, a lack of proper insulation results in very expensive utility bills.
Wambold Construction will do the repair work, with the county paying half of the expense due at contract signing and the remainder when the work is complete.
In other business at the Jan. 17 meeting, JPs:
• voted to have District 7 JP Kellie Matt serve as the quorum court’s representative to the state quorum court association;
• appointed Jay Lee to the Berryville Public Library Board of Trustees;
• appointed David Jones, David Henke and Ken Rall to the Inspiration Point Rural Fire Protection District Board.
• approved a resolution confirming the county sheriff’s designation of interim successors;
• approved a resolution declaring a vacancy in the office of Southeast Township constable;
• approved an appropriation ordinance earmarking $490,946 for the construction of a communications tower on leased property on Arkansas Highway 23; • approved an appropriation ordinance earmarking $525 to pay for expenses incurred by a volunteer with the county’s Office of Emergency Management;
• and approved a resolution establishing a temporary committee of the Eastern District Judicial Building Steering Committee.
The quorum court’s next regular meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, at the Eastern District Courthouse in Berryville.
