Hussey is new parks director

Posted

Jamie Hussey’s love for his hometown has been evident from an early age, when he began working with his dad, J.C., at the Berryville Sears store.

From there, Hussey moved on to a job at Western Auto and then to local radio station KTHS, where his passion for Berryville and Carroll County allowed him to serve the public for the past 23 years.

Now, Hussey is answering a different calling as the new parks and recreation director for the city of Berryville. The Berryville City Council approved his hiring at its meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 15, and he’ll assume his new duties on Monday, Aug. 28.

“The city council and I are excited to have Jamie on board as our new parks director,” Berryville Mayor Tim McKinney said. “Jamie knows our community well and has been a great advocate for Berryville for many years in many different roles. I look forward to working with Jamie as he joins the city of Berryville team.”

One of Hussey’s primary responsibilities will be managing the Berryville Community Center.

“Somebody told me: ‘Jamie, this is right up your alley — kids and senior citizens.’ I enjoy them both and everybody in between so it’s really cool to find a way to be able to serve not just Berryville but all our communities. It made it really easy to recognize that this will be a good passion for me. At this age that I’m at, you’ve got to be inspired to do things. I don’t want just a job, didn’t want just a job and I never have.”

Hussey said his goals include expanding and growing existing programs and exploring new opportunities for the city to serve its citizens.

During his time at KTHS, Hussey worked as sales manager, sports director, operations manager and finally general manager.

Hussey volunteers as the Berryville Lady Bobcats golf coach, serves on the board of directors of the Carroll County Country Club, is a past president of the Berryville Rotary Club and is a member of the Berryville United Methodist Church. He received the Berryville Chamber of Commerce’s Tom Earls Ambassador Award in 2016.
