The Berryville Library is excited to announce this year’s summer reading program. Adventure is the theme and this year’s program will reach new heights!
The first adventure will be a hot air balloon demonstration sponsored by Clay Maxey Berryville. Yes, a hot air balloon is coming to Berryville! This adventure kicks off at 8:30 a.m. Monday, June 3, at the City Bobcat Youth Soccer Complex located across from the Bobcat Arena. You will be able to watch the balloon inflate, get a close-up view of its size, and talk to a balloon pilot. Bring your lawnchair and note that it is weather-dependent; not just rain but wind and other atmospheric conditions affect hot air balloons. Watch the library’s Facebook page and website on Sunday afternoon for confirmation that weather conditions will allow for the presentation to happen or the announcement of a new date.
Adventures will continue all summer long. There will be adventures on stage at 1 p.m. Mondays at Berryville High School’s Performing Arts Center. Artists from around the region will be there to sing, tell stories, and put on amazing shows. Stage shows run from June 10 through July 22. All are free and fun for all ages.
Wednesdays will also be full of adventure all summer long. Wednesday adventures will alternate between adventures in a park or adventures with art. Park adventures kick off with a nature scavenger hunt at the City Pool Park, near the site of the new library, at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 5. ArtVentures kick off at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, at the library at 104 Spring St. The Shiloh Museum will be here to present “Winding Through the Ozarks” which focuses on a little bit of history about the Civil Conservation Corps in Arkansas and a lot on the art of weaving. Wednesday adventures will run from June 5 through July 24. All are free. A full schedule of Wednesday adventures is available at the library.
There will also be adventure- themed reading challenges for all ages. Little ones will be going on a balloon hunt. School-age children are invited to take a hike on the Ozark Highlands Book Trail. Teens and adults will have a “Choose Your Own” adventure. Sign-ups for the reading challenges start May 28. All hours read between the time you sign up and July 26 count toward earning small prizes and some fun surprises.
There is no cost to participate in any of these events, and all ages are welcome. For more information, contact the Berryville Library at 870-4232323 or check out the library’s website at berryvillelibrary.org/ srp2024.
