Highlanders hold off Yellville-Summit

Posted

It’s hard to win on the road. It’s even harder to win a conference game on the road.

But the Eureka Springs Highlanders got it done Friday, Jan. 20, beating the Yellville-Summit Panthers 43-41 in Yellville.

“It was nice to go on the road and play well,” Eureka Springs coach Brian Rambo said.

The Highlanders, who were led by Dylan Johnson’s 21 points and 12 rebounds, had a comfortable lead at halftime but had to hold off the Panthers down the stretch.

“They made it interesting,” Rambo said. “They had a chance to win the game with about a second and a half to go. They missed a wide-open shot and we survived. It’s big. It’s good for our kids.”

Senior center Shane Holloway added 12 points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots for Eureka Springs.

On Tuesday, Jan. 17, the Highlanders lost at home to Cotter, 57-39.

“They just have so many perimeter guys that do a good job of taking away Dylan, especially,” Rambo said. “And that’s really between them and Yellville. Yellville has good guards, but their size is smaller. Dylan can hold them off and then get in the post and post up on them. Cotter’s not a good matchup for us because the guards are bigger. Dylan has a hard time scoring and they neutralize Shane and they force other guys to score the basketball and that’s kind of really the weakness of our basketball team.”

Johnson scored 22 points in the loss to Cotter.

Eureka Springs hosted Greenland on Monday night. The Highlanders will be at home against Ozark Mountain on Friday.
