The Green Forest Lady Tigers ran into a more talented team in the semifinals of the Class 3A state soccer tournament on Saturday, May 13, in Harrison, but that doesn’t mean the Lady Tigers can’t be proud of how they performed in the tournament.
Coach Ashley Wilson certainly found plenty of cause for pride after Green Forest’s season ended with a 6-0 loss to Central Arkansas Christian.
“I’m very proud, because we made it pretty far, especially for a mostly new team,” Wilson said.
It was Green Forest’s third consecutive semifinal appearance. The Lady Tigers reached the championship game in 2021 before falling to Harding Academy, then lost to the Lady Wildcats in the semifinals last season. With a youthful roster this spring, Green Forest showed significant progress as the season went on.
“There was so much improvement,” Wilson said. “That’s what was so cool. That really greatly prepared them for next year.”
Green Forest showed its moxie in a second-round game against Riverview. The Lady Tigers trailed Riverview 4-1 with a little more than 20 minutes remaining but rallied with four goals to win 5-4 and advance to the semifinals.
Senior Emily Lozano scored three goals and her younger sister Kayla, a sophomore, added two for Green Forest.
“I think that game, being down 4-1 at one point, that especially proved just how much heart and fight those girls have,” Wilson said.
