The Green Forest School board met for a special business meeting on June 2 and used the opportunity to deal with a number of personnel matters as well as approve the purchase of new cafeteria tables.
Before meeting in an executive session, the board approved the purchase of 40 new tables for approximately $75,000 from Palmer Hamilton LLC, a furniture manufacturer based in Elkhorn, Wis., in addition to hearing the first read on a number of newly received policies.
The bulk of the meeting was given over to personnel matters.
After returning from an executive session, the board accepted a number of resignations and retirements, including John Nicks as a bus driver; custodian Saowapha Newberry; Danna Wise as a bus driver and food service worker; Shelly James, a middle school special education teacher; Jacqueline Stoppel, an eighth-grade social studies teacher, Sarah Underdown, a sixth-grade social studies teacher; and paraprofessional Corey Zimmerman.
The board voted to approve the transfers of Chelsea Froman to second-grade teacher, Derek Cornett to agriculture teacher and FFA adviser, Moo Dah Wah to ELL translator and interpreter, and Tammy Evans to elementary ESL teacher.
The board also voted to hire Kassie Laughery-McBryde as a first-grade teacher, Emily Jobe as a second-grade teacher, Angela Burleigh as a sixth-grade social studies teacher, Laurie Cowling as an eighth-grade social studies teacher, Andy Sinay as middle school band director and assistant high school band director, Haley Lawyer as a high school science teacher, Irma Leal and Karen Pineda as special education paraprofessionals and Karen Kinard as a middle school special education teacher.
The board is scheduled to hold its regular monthly meeting at 5 p.m., June 20, at the Green Forest High School Media Center.
