An early lead didn’t hold up for the Berryville Bobcats as Gravette rallied for an 11-3 win in the first round of the 4A-1 district baseball tournament on Wednesday, April 27.
Berryville took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning. The Bobcats loaded the bases with one out on singles by Ashton Blok and Dustin Dean, wrapped around a walk to D.J. Colbert. Aspen Linz followed with an RBI single, then Colbert scored on a passed ball. Brady Smith drew a walk to load the bases again before Dean scored on Chris Hipps’ sacrifice fly to left field.
Gravitate took the lead for good with four runs in the bottom of the third, then added two in the fifth and four more in the bottom of the sixth.
Berryville finished with seven hits, all singles. The Bobcats also drew six walks.
Hipps pitched five innings for Berryville, striking out 10 batters while allowing four hits.
The loss ends Berryville’s season.
