The final score of Green Forest’s game at Gravette on Friday, Oct. 21, looks like the game was a mismatch: Gravette won 43-3.

For most of the first half, however, it was anyone’s game before the Lions used a late second- quarter touchdown to gain the momentum and then wore the Tigers down in the second half.

Green Forest took a 3-0 lead on a 35-yard field goal by Jesus Romero Castillo with 6:32 remaining in the first quarter. Gravette answered with a touchdown but it remained 7-3 at the end of the first quarter.

Gravette led 13-3 in the final minute of the second quarter before a 52-yard pass set up a touchdown with 23 seconds left that extended the Lions’ lead to 20-3.

In the second half, Gravette’s depth showed up as the Lions outscored Green Forest 23-0.

“That big play right before the half, that was a big one,” said Green Forest coach Greg Tibbitt, whose team only had 25 players available. “And then it just seemed like in the middle of the third quarter it just kind of got away from us.”

Green Forest will host Huntsville on Friday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
