Green Forest juniors Lydia Russell and Arauny Reyes won a combined seven events in the 3A-1 district track and field championships on Monday, April 22, at Elkins.
Russell, who won four events at the 2023 Class 3A state track and field meet, won the girls 100-meter dash, 100-meter hurdles, long jump and triple jump at Elkins. She finished second in the 300-meter hurdles and eighth in the 200-meter dash.
Reyes won the boys 800, 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs. Green Forest’s Lucas Maloney won the pole vault while teammate Isisah Lopez won the discus.
Green Forest finished second in the boys division and fifth among the girls teams.
Green Forest freshman Ywa Hay Moo, who took high-point honors while leading the Tigers to the junior high district championship a week earlier, finished second in the 110-meter hurdles, one spot ahead of sophomore Gabe Serna. Another freshman Shar Moo, took third place in the 300-meter hurdles. Classmate DJ Rang finished third in the pole vault.
Serna finished fifth in the 100-meter dash, while junior Erbin Mendoza was fourth in the 3,200-meter run and fifth in the 800.
This year’s Class 3A state championships will be held Tuesday, April 30, in Jessieville.
