A Green Forest woman is facing a second-degree murder charge after telling investigators she struck her boyfriend in the head with a car battery during an altercation, according to a probable-cause affidavit.

Ashley Nicole Hunt, 32, is accused in the death of Kevin Joe Rogers, 61, of Green Forest, whose body was discovered Saturday, Oct. 3, on the front porch of a residence north of Green Forest.

According to the affidavit written by Arkansas State Police investigator Jaran McCormick, Hunt voluntarily arrived at the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office in Berryville at approximately 1:45 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, and turned herself in.

After waiving her Miranda rights, Hunt told investigators during a recorded interview that she and Rogers consumed vodka and methamphetamine on the evening of Friday, Oct. 2. She said a verbal argument escalated into a physical altercation that began inside the residence and continued onto the front porch, according to the affidavit.

Hunt admitted striking Rogers on the head with a car battery, after which he became unresponsive, the affidavit says.

She also admitted taking Rogers’ 2003 Chevrolet truck without permission, then later returning and taking his 2007 Chevrolet Corvette, also without permission, according to the affidavit.

In a news release Friday, Oct. 9, the ASP identified Hunt as Rogers’ girlfriend and said it was investigating his death at the request of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the release, Carroll County authorities received a 911 call from a witness who had gone to check on Rogers’ welfare after noticing his truck parked at the end of a driveway on Carroll County Road 4351.

ASP personnel responded at approximately 2:46 p.m. Oct. 3 to 3478 Arkansas State Highway 103, where troopers found Rogers unresponsive on the front porch, according to the affidavit. A deputy coroner confirmed his death at approximately 7:46 p.m.

Hunt appeared before Carroll County District Judge Dale Ramsey, who found probable cause to charge her with second-degree murder and theft of property. Ramsey set her bond at $50,000 and ordered her to appear at 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2, in Carroll County Circuit Court in Berryville.

Rogers’ body has been transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory, where medical examiners will determine the official cause and manner of death, according to the ASP news release.
