The Green Forest Tigers showed off their power pitching in a 4-3 season-opening victory over visiting Greenland on Monday, March 2.

Green Forest pitchers Kasen Robinson, Radon Lawrence and Colin Atchison had a combined total of 18 strikeouts while holding the Pirates to two hits.

Meanwhile, Isaac Kennedy provided the offensive firepower for Green Forest, collecting two of the Tigers’ 11 hits and driving in three runs.

Green Forest took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning when Kennedy singled in Lawrence and Cole Meador, who had three hits for the Tigers, and Atchison scored on a sacrifice fly by Robinson.

Greenland tied the score with two runs in the top of the sixth, but Kennedy singled to score Lawrence with two out in the bottom of the inning for what turned out to be the game-winning run.

Lawrence and Robinson each had two hits for Green Forest, and Robinson scored twice.

Robinson pitched the first three innings for the Tigers, collecting six strikeouts while allowing a single run. Lawrence worked the next three innings, striking out nine batters and allowing two runs. Atchison struck out three of the four batters he faced in the seventh to preserve the win for Green Forest.

Green Forest lost 10-0 to Valley Springs on Tuesday, March 3, in Harrison. The Tigers traveled to Gravette on Monday, March 9. They’ll host the Lions on Tuesday, March 10, before playing in a tournament starting Wednesday, March 11, at West Fork.
