GF council plans special meeting to consider options

Posted

The Green Forest City Council will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, to consider options for filling the mayor’s seat after the recent death of Mayor Don McNeely.

McNeely, 73, died Nov. 3. His term was set to expire in January 2027.

The city council had been accepting applications from residents interested in serving as mayor for the remainder of McNeely’s term, and held a special meeting on Monday, Nov. 17, but did not appoint an interim mayor.

City attorney Clint Scheel said he has advised the council that they have two options — appointing a mayor by a majority vote or approving an ordinance calling for a special election to fill the mayor’s seat.
