GF collects 25 hits in softball season opener

The 2023 softball season couldn’t have started much better for the Green Forest Lady Tigers.

In their first turn at bat in the new season, the Lady Tigers scored seven runs. They went on to a 24-8 victory at Mountainburg on Monday, Feb. 27.

Junior Tamika Ramirez set the tone offensively for Green Forest with three singles and a double. Ramirez scored four runs and drove in four more.

Sophomore Alyvia Newboles had five of the Lady Tigers’ 25 hits, scoring twice and driving in a run. Freshman Brinley Bishop added three hits, four runs and two RBI for Green Forest, while junior Presley Gordon had three hits, scored four times and drove in a run. Senior Allie Snow picked up four hits, drove in two runs and scored twice.

Senior Leah Evans, Newboles and Bishop handled the pitching duties for the Lady Tigers in the three-inning game.

Despite the big offensive numbers, Green Forest coach Christianna Camp said her team’s biggest strength can’t be quantified.

“I think the biggest strength for them right now is these girls really love each other,” Camp said. “They enjoy each other’s presence. They’re really good about holding each other accountable. And I think that is going to take them pretty far this year. We have skills, obviously, but we also have the backing. We have the accountability. And I feel like if we can bring all those three things together, they’ll be good to go.”

Green Forest was scheduled to host Flippin on Monday, Marshall on Tuesday and Cotter on Thursday before playing at Jasper on Friday.
