GF board approves $650 bonuses

Employees in the Green Forest School District received some extra money in their bank accounts last week.

At its monthly meeting held Wednesday, Nov. 19, the school board approved $650 bonuses for all full-time district staff.

“The school board and I are just so happy with how hard the teachers and staff are working,” superintendent David Gilmore wrote in an email to the Carroll County News. “They do so much for our school and community.

“I am proud of all of the progress they are making with our students. We have a ONE UNIT philosophy where it takes all of us working together to provide the services they do for our students.”

Employees got the bonus on Friday, Nov. 21, according to Gilmore.

“They are very worthy of the bonus that the board agreed to provide this year,” he said.

The board also approved a couple of additions to the student handbook.

For high school graduation in May, the board OK’d language that says that students participating will sit in alphabetical order for presentation of diplomas in order of high honor graduates, honor graduates and the rest of the class to follow.

Also added to the handbook under the district’s cell phone policy is an addition that says an exception to the no-device policy is when “the student enrolled in an endorsed concurrent enrollment course at an institution of higher education, and the use of the personal electronic device is necessary in order to utilize two-factor authentication to access course work and resources for the endorsed concurrent enrollment course.”

“The use of the personal device shall be limited to the time necessary to complete the two-factor authentication process,” the handbook addition reads.

The board also unanimously approved the purchase of “school-use vehicles” in place of a new school bus for the 20252026 school year.

The current bus fleet is in good shape and the district is in need of vehicles for smaller, school-related trips, the board discussed.

Also OK’d was again selecting Bailey Education Group, LLC, for high-impact tutoring in the amount of $251,250 using funds from the High Impact Tutoring Grant.

No district funds will be spent on the tutoring, the board was told.
