CrewsGary L. Crews of Eureka Springs, Arkansas passed away Saturday, May 25, 2024, in Fayetteville, Arkansas at the age of 87. Gary was born on August 20, 1936, in Eureka Springs, Arkansas to James E. and Della (Hammon) Crews.
As soon as Gary graduated high school, he went to work at General Motors in Kansas City, Missouri where he lived with his brother, Tommy Crews and wife Blanch. However, he missed Eureka Springs, so he headed back home. He went into the Air Force on March 30, 1956, where he was trained to work on F-100s. This would take him to many places, including Japan, Italy, and finally to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where he stayed until his tour of duty was over.
After that he returned to Eureka Springs where he worked with his brother, Elbert, logging. In 1960, Gary started working for the Army Corps of Engineers to build Beaver Dam, which was completed in 1963. He retired from Beaver Dam Power Plant where he was the superintendent of the plant. Gary always had a “part-time” job raising cattle.
On September 18, 1960, Gary married his wife of 63 years, Mary Fanning Crews, who survives him of the home. He is also survived by his daughter, Betsy Crews-Seibert and husband Bob of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; son, Gary R. Crews and Jami Heinemann of Fayetteville, Arkansas; grandchildren, Alyssa Crews Black and husband Thomas of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Maggie Seibert of Kansas City, Missouri, Clint Crews and wife Chelsea of Bentonville, Arkansas, and Garrick Crews of Farmington, Arkansas; six great-grandchildren, Presley, Jaxon, Bennett, Emmelyn Grace, Everett, and Parker; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. He will be missed by all.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James E. and Della Crews; brothers, Everett, Tommy, and Elbert Crews; and sister, Helen Bonham.
Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 31, 2024, at Nelson’s Chapel of the Springs. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Faith Christian Family Church with Pastor Don Carter officiating.
