The Friends of the Berryville Library will be celebrating the International Day of Peace & Love in a big way on Saturday, July 8, at the Berryville City Pool Park.
The Peace, Love and a New Library fundraising festival is a family-friendly event featuring carnival games, live music, food, and all sorts of fun. It will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at the library. Tickets for those 18 and over are $5. Tickets for those ages 3 to 17 are $3. There is no charge for those under 3 years of age. The ticket price includes entry, a sack lunch, drink and three game tickets.
International Day of Peace began in 2008 when Ringo Starr was asked what he wanted for his birthday and his reply was “Peace and Love.” When the Friends of the Library were asked what they most wanted, their reply was “Peace, Love, and a New Library!”
Berryville Walmart is the presenting sponsor for the event. Gold sponsors include Carroll County Broadcasting, Carroll County Community Media, Pepsi of Harrison, Ed & LeAnn Morrissey and Malachi & Tasha McDonald. Other sponsors include Peggy Lodewyks; Shelter Insurance – Tonya Williams, Agent; State Farm – JoAnn Clark, Agent; Bar L Homes, Llc; CJC Electric; Paul and Carol Ann Engskov; and Eric and Kristy Tesch.
The event kicks off at 11 a.m. with live music, bingo, face painting, carnival games, a dessert walk and so much more. There will also be a silent auction for themed baskets valued at $50 or more. Festival T-shirts, book bags and flower headbands also will be available for sale at the event. Walmart will host a Lucky Cupcake sale, with those lucky enough to pick a filled cupcake winning a Walmart Gift Card.
Lunch will be a famous “Luther Burger” sack lunch, which will include a sandwich, chips, drink and mini cupcake. Additional cupcakes and drinks will be available for sale at the event. There will be a special cupcake toast to the universe at noon, a custom started by Ringo Starr to celebrate a day of peace and love around the world.
According to event chairperson Carol Ann Engskov: “We have been overwhelmed by community and business support for this event. It is shaping up to be one of the largest fundraising efforts the Friends have ever embarked on, and we couldn’t have done it without the human and financial support of our presenting sponsor Walmart and the store manager Malachi McDonald.”
