4A-1 cross country coaches probably should make a note: Kai Killingsworth is coming, and she’s going to be a force to be reckoned with.
The Berryville freshman not only won the junior high girls two-mile race at the 4A-1 district championships on Tuesday, Oct. 24, in Berryville. She also took sixth place in the high school girls race that covered 5,000 meters.
Killingsworth’s 5K performance in a time of 22 minutes, 56 seconds flat boosted the Lady Bobcats to a second-place finish in the team standings.
Berryville junior Bella Knapp was 11th in the high school girls race in a time of 23:52.50. She was followed by classmate Astralia Amos (10th, 24:15.40); senior Carly Smith (11th, 24:28.10); sophomore Maranatha Ross (13th, 25:01.00); freshman Kelly Diaz (28:27.20); and junior Sophee Bartos (42nd, 35:45.00).
In the senior boys race, Berryville junior Malachi Houghton took sixth place (18:14.30) to lead the Bobcats to a fourth-place finish in the team standings. Sophomore Noah Houghton was 18th (19:20.10), followed by junior Oliver Bemis (19th, 19:20.60); junior Asher Ross (28th, 21:12.80); freshman Jachin Houghton (29th, 21:17.60); junior Gabriel Wall (33rd, 22:04.40); senior Nathan Ross (36th, 22:51.50); sophomore Lane Carman (41st, 23:42.20); junior Aden Burnett (45th, 24:59.10); and junior Gavin Simpkins (47th, 25:10.00).
Kai Killingsworth won the junior girls two-mile race in a time of 13:19.00. Berryville seventh-grader Mikayla Killingsworth finished sixth in 14:05.00. The Lady Bobcats were second in the junior girls team standings.
Jachin Houghton was Berryville’s top finisher in the junior boys race, finishing 28th in a time of 13:23.90.
The Class 4A state cross country championships will be held Thursday, Nov. 2, at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs.
