Final score doesn’t tell whole story for Lady Bobcats

Posted

The Berryville Lady Bobcats opened their 2024 softball season with a 17-7 loss at Ozark on Friday, March 1, but Berryville coach Arel Ferguson said the game was more competitive than the final score.

Berryville led 7-6 before Ferguson removed starting pitcher Bailey Skelton as a precaution.

“She got hit earlier in the game,” Ferguson said. “A ball kind of hit off her foot weird and she kept pitching. About the fifth inning, I had to pull her because I had to make a choice. Was it worth her being out multiple games?”

Despite the loss, there were some bright spots for the Lady Bobcats. Senior Emma Taylor hit a two-run home run in the first inning and Ferguson was pleased with her team’s play.

“When we settled down, we had pretty lock-down defense,” she said. “I worried about our hitting, but we had super timely hitting, which is nice.”

With almost the entire roster returning from last season, Ferguson said the experience should be a big plus.

The Lady Bobcats are scheduled to play their home opener Thursday, March 7, hosting Flippin. Berryville is set to travel to Cotter on Friday, March 8.
