Extension Homemaker Club Update

Posted

Carroll County Extension Homemakers turns 100 this year! Founded in 1923, the Carroll County Council has been equipping homemakers and giving back to the community for 100 years! We plan to celebrate with a Fall Tea. Details will be announced soon.

It has been a busy month for EHC! Four members attended the State Meeting in Little Rock June 6-8 and heard many educational seminars and attended a few crafting classes.

EHC is all things County Fair! Many of our members recently attended Fair Judging School in Boone County and others plan to attend Fair Judging School in Benton County. You do not have to be an EHC member to become a Fair Judge. We prepare as many exhibits to enter in the educational department as possible, and we sell things in our Country Store in the educational department. We believe that supporting our fair through entering fair exhibits makes the fair a more enjoyable experience for everyone who attends the fair and encourages more people to invest in our county fair. Did you know that you can get cash prizes for most items that you enter in the county fair?

Below are the meeting minutes from each of our clubs. Consider joining us! Contact the Extension Office for more information or come see us in our Country Store during the County Fair!

NEXT GENERATION EHC JUNE 1, 2023

We had three regulars and two new members attend our monthly meeting. We had “fair food” for our potluck. Fruit-infused homemade lemonade, caramel-dipped apples, homemade kettle corn and our pepper jelly over mascarpone cheese. We made two door prizes to take to the State Meeting: a tub full of cleaning supplies and a “Loves to Craft” Gift in a Jar. We began working on our educational board for the county fair. Katy Generaux is the chairwoman for the project. We called it “Stitches of Love.” Star’s daughter, Morgan, made our title letters with her Cricut. We decided to do a card-making project for the second-grade kids in summer school at the public school on June 27. Jennifer Yeager, and her two children, and Katy Generaux participated and led the card-making class of 30 students. We encouraged the students to enter their cards in the county fair in continuation of our theme “Scatter random acts of kindness.”

CARROLL COUNTY COUNTRY CHICKS EHC JUNE 12, 2023 The Carroll County Country Chicks EHC met on Monday, May 15, 2023, at 4:30 p.m. at the Extension Office. Sharon High, Lisa Blach, Cherrilyn Scheller, , Carole Coley and Johanna Edwards were in attendance. Anna Champlin was unable to attend.

Item 1. The club’s bank statement shows a total of $3,102.25 Item 2. Our next crockpot class will be July 15, 2023, from 10 a.m. to noon at the community room on the Berryville Square Item 3. Johanna will get more information regarding billing vendors through CS Bank Merchant Accounts Item 4. Lisa has CGG applications ready to go. Completed applications are due by Monday, July 31. Selections will be made at our club meeting on Aug. 14 and vendors will be notified the week of Aug. 21. They will have two weeks to pay for their booth space. If payment is not received by that time their spot will be given to another vendor. In the case of booth sharing, each vendor must fill out an application but there is no guarantee that they will be allowed to share. Lisa made a motion to pay the Fair Board a $70 donation to cover the cost of electricity during CGG. Carole seconded and all were in favor. Johanna will look into new signs/banners and see about hanging them on the fences on the square. The vendors “welcome” email will include instructions to bring a product of theirs valued for at least $10 to give away as door prizes. These gifts need to be wrapped and have a card with their contact information securely attached. Sharon said that she would contact Carroll Electric about advertising in their magazine. Johanna will begin advertising on various NWA Vendor facebook pages along with the community bulletin board on KTHS. Carroll will contact her granddaughter, Averie, about putting an ad in the football programs. She will also see if the cheerleaders would like to do a fundraiser selling coffee and doughnuts in the morning and nachos or hot dogs in the afternoon. Johanna will look at setting up a website.

Item 5. Christmas in July card-making will be Saturday, July 22, at 10a.m. and will be a potluck. Lisa and Johanna will be making some card kits and of course everyone can do their own thing. Location is to be determined.

Carole made a motion to adjourn at 5:45. Lisa seconded and all were in favor.
