ESSA show, sale feature artist’s pottery

The Eureka Springs School of the Arts has announced an art show and sale featuring pottery by Ash Atterberry as she completes a month-long stay as an artist in residence.

The ESSA ceramics residency program is designed to provide a practicing ceramics artist with focused time to refine their skills, create work and explore new avenues within their medium.

There will be a meet and greet with the artist from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, at the ESSA campus where guests can show support and purchase artwork.

Atterberry is an accomplished ceramics artist from Madison, Tenn., and was chosen to receive an ESSA ceramics residency after applying along with a very competitive pool of applicants from several states.

Atterberry spent time in Northwest Arkansas in 2014-2015 at the University of Arkansas doing a post baccalaureate in ceramics, and she fell in love with the landscape, old-time music and folklore that is attached to the area.

Ash says her work is “about small joys and the importance of feeling connected to what surrounds you... I am heavily influenced by folk art because it is often just about the everyday and making it a little more weird and interesting.”

During her time as artist in residence on the ESSA campus, Atterberry has conducted workshops for students from Clear Spring School, Eureka Springs High School and North Arkansas College. She has also spent focused time in the ESSA ceramics studio creating fantastic work that will be available for purchase at the upcoming show and sale.
